Bakewell is lovely place to stay and visit and we want to keep it that way!
We are a small market town and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, best know for its Bakewell pudding. It is located on the River Wye, about thirteen miles from Sheffield.
We are an RHS Gold award winning small town 2018 and 2019.
Horticulture / Environment
Throughout the year we plant, maintain and co-ordinate the large planters around the town centre creating attractive floral displays.
We help maintain the public spaces, business premises, care homes and advise schools in the area. We started up a successful no plastic straw, and no single use plastics initiative in 2018 which we have continued into 2019.
Our Bloom is involved with many community events and local organisations. We support local business by making our town look attractive, and organise a success window display competition for the town centre business.
The ‘avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance’
A large part of the Bloom is to keep the diverse and native flora and fauna of Derbyshire indefinitely, particularly its wildflowers. We have created a native wildflower area, which we have expanded and continue to monitor in 2019 plus encourage and co-ordinate a ‘no-mow‘ campaign.
